Check up from the neck up
It has been a year of challenges for businesses and individuals in more ways than one and it is now a time to relax and smell the roses and recharge the batteries for 2010.

Over the years I have accumulated favourite phrases or quotes that help me lift my spirits and regain perspective. I don’t know many people that don’t have “a bad hair day” every now and then or as I sometimes say are “in need of a check up from the neck up”. So I have put together some attitude adjusters that have worked for me and are within my daily arsenal. After all if you don’t know what you stand for, you could fall for anything!

From the team at Bridge Consulting we wish you all a wonderful Christmas and thank you for your business over the last twelve months. We also extend our best wishes for a very happy and prosperous new year.

Giving a High Performer Productive Feedback

Giving feedback, particularly constructive feedback, is often a stressful task. As counterintuitive as it may seem, giving feedback to a top performer can be even tougher.

Top performers may not have obvious development needs and in identifying those needs, you can sometimes feel like you're being nitpicky or over-demanding. In addition, top performers may not be used to hearing constructive feedback and may rankle at the slightest hint that they're not perfect.

However, giving your stars good feedback is essential to keeping them engaged, focused, and motivated.

Motivating people: Getting beyond money

The economic slump offers business leaders a chance to more effectively reward talented employees by emphasizing nonfinancial motivators rather than bonuses.

Many financial rewards mainly generate short-term boosts of energy, which can have damaging unintended consequences. Indeed, the economic crisis, with its imperative to reduce costs and to balance short and long term performance effectively, gives business leaders a great opportunity to reassess the combination of financial and nonfinancial incentives that will serve their companies best through and beyond the downturn.

Cara has been working for one of our clients for the past five weeks in a reception cover role and we have received great feedback from them with regards to her ability to pick the job up quickly, her professionalism, "can do" attitude and great telephone manner. Cara is always timely with her paperwork, is very good at keeping in touch with us and is always happy to do short notice roles."

VIC – Nadia Iudicone (November)
"Over the past 2 years Nadia has shown dedication, loyalty and a flexible attitude. She routinely does whatever is necessary to ensure I am supported at all times, including organising complex travel itineraries and meetings over the Asia Pacific Region. I thank her for her ongoing support and for understanding and pre-empting our requirements and needs."

Vic – Maureen Lee (December)
"Maureen was given a task that is very important to us and requires accuracy and speed. It also requires interpretation of the data. She has completed all the work required and as a professional stayed with us to finish the task that she undertook. The report she produced will be very valuable to us for the purpose of our quality assurance process."

We are extremely pleased with the work and are thanking her for doing such an excellent job. She is dependable, loyal, hard working and has a keen eye for detail. A true professional. Thank you for recommending her to us."

We congratulate Maggie, Cara, Nadia and Maureen and thank all our clients for their nominations, giving these candiates further recognition and acknowledgement.
